Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge – 1 Year in Jail

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a weapon in the second degree in New York. The plea bargain carries a sentence of up to a year in prison. Wayne had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were filed after the NYPD found a .40 caliber handgun on Wayne’s tour bus in July 2007.

Cops searched Wayne’s tour bus after they detected the aroma of marijuana following his show at the Beacon Theatre. When police approached the bus, Wayne allegedly tossed a Louis Vuitton bag with the gun inside. It’s expected that Wayne will serve a sentence of eight months to a year, as the New York judicial system is usually tough on firearm violators, regardless of fame.

Lil Wayne is now the second major rapper in the span of a year to be found guilty of weapons charges. T.I. is currently serving time after being sentenced to a year and a day in prison in March 2009 after pleading guilty to weapons charges. Wayne will officially be sentenced in February; it’s unclear whether the guilty plea will effect the planned December 15th release of the rapper’s oft-delayed Rebirth.

Stephen Gately, a singer of Irish boy band Boyzone, died yesterday while on vacation on the Spanish island of Majorca according to their official Group Website. Stephen Gately was 33.

The Group Boyzone declined to give further details about the cause of death, the rest of the members of the group—Shane Lynch, Mickey Graham, Keith Duffy, and and Ronan Keaning released the following statement :

We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen’s family. We love you and will miss you forever, ‘Steo’.

According to the Band’s Website Stephen Gately was with his Partner Andrew Cowles at the time of his death. The pair were wed in a civil ceremony in 2006.

Boyzone was a U.K. success in the 1990s and was one of the biggest acts to come out of Ireland in that decade . They never had much success in the United States. After disbanding in 2000, Stephen Gately had put out several solo singles and appeared in musical productions, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The group reunited last year for a comeback concert tour.

Rapper singer Drake may have seriously injured his already defected knee on Friday night. Lil’ Wayne’s “America’s Most Wanted” touring partner was performing his breakthrough hit, Best I Ever Had, with Wayne when the former Degrassi: The Next Generation star collapsed in the middle of a spin!

According to the Witnesses at the show in Camden, New Jersey Drake put his head down because he was in so much pain. Four men carried Drake off the stage and left Lil’ Wayne hanging in the middle of the performance.

Drake tore his ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament) before the tour started, but made the decision to continue on with the tour, without the green light from his doc. The singer’s doctor warned Drake he may never walk again if he managed to tear his ACL a second time.
