Bangladesh lost the last match with india at ICC cricket world cup 2011. There are much criticism that Bangladesh could choose to bat first. Here is a discussion between the Bangladesh team captain with Shakib Al Hasan and The Daily Prothom Alo to find the answer.

Question: you have chosen to field first even winning the toss and that’s the talk of the town?
Shakib Al Hasan: I don’t actually see any reason to make it a big issue. Actually when you have no cause you have to find something—that’s the thing.

Question: but after loosing the toss if opposition makes 370 and wins then there will be criticism.
Shakib Al Hassan: at Mirpur stadium last 10 over are critical for bowler because of dew factor. But there wasn’t much dew that day. Then what happened? Actually It was their day.

Question: then where was the problem?
Shakib Al Hasan: actually worse playing with new ball was the pillar of our failure that day. Bowlers gave much run. If we got more wickets at first this big score may not took place at scoreboard.

Question: mass people are saying that if Bangladesh chose to bat first and made the score they made at the last match with India, India might not chase it successfully. What do you think?
Shakib Al Hasan: On this field we made 294 against India and they won that before.

Question: do you have any dissatisfaction about your decision?
Shakib Al Hasan: no. we have thought about about it for lat 5-7 days.

Question: what do you find positi.ve in this match?
Shakib Al Hasan: I think inspiration of the audience. They have recharged us a lot.

International Mother Languge day came from only a movement of four days and the movement was such powerfull that could the country to win liberation. Yes I am talking about the language movement in 1952.

After the divition of subcontinent in 1947, there were two countries—India and Pakistan. Pakistan was devided into two parts—East and West. East Pakistan is the past name of Bangladesh. After 1947 the west pakistan hold the supirior power of the state and east pakistan became the production place of the state. But all the development were implimented in West side. East Pakistan people were deprived in all sector of the state. What was shocking for them was the attack on their mother tongue. The west pakistan leaders announced that “URDU AND URDU WILL BE THE STATE LANGUAGE OF PAKISTAN”

The first Bangali who opposed the announcement publically was Dhirendronath Datta. The students, worker, farmer and all the people of east pakistan burst and they carried out a proccession breakin rule 144 which was imposed upon them by the government. Police fired into the Proccession and Rafiq,Salam, Jabbar,Shofiur andmany other had acccept martyerdom. Thetotal east pakistan burst into anger and further movement. And finally finding no way in front of the bigger pressure provided by the depriver people, the pakistan government declared Bangla as the state language of pakistan.

This language movement lead East Pakistan to come out of domination and fight for the liberation of the country in 1971. After 9 months of war East Pakistan won freedom and became a soveregn country Bangladesh.

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999.

On 16 May 2009 the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution called upon Member States “to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world”. By the same resolution, the General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages, to promote unity in diversity and international understanding, through multilingualism and multiculturalism.

International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The date represents the day in 1952 when students demonstrating for recognition of their language, Bangla, as one of the two national languages of the then Pakistan, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka, the capital of what is now Bangladesh.

Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our the existence of a nation. And there is no country in this world fighting for language. Bangladesh is the one and 21st february is a red letter day for them as well as for the whole world.

Shakib Al Hasan- Best Test Cricketer of the year

Tendulkar, Ponting and Lara are unlikely icons among villagers in the remote countryside of Magura, in one of the poorest district of Bangladesh- Jessore.

But the boys of this village in Magura now eat, sleep and drink cricket, and stay up all night to catch their favourite teams play, regardless of where the match is being played.

The village has only one connecting road to the main district and authorities have failed to even make that pucca, citing limited resources and natural obstructions.

Fishing is the only occupation which ensures that the thousand odd population of the village have their bread and butter. So, one quality which every child of this village wears on his sleeves is of never being afraid of tough challenges. Where challenges are friends and high tides and deep sea always a companion, who bothers about things like roads, electricity, schools and playgrounds, leave alone a cricket bat.

Often I wondered what if Chris Gardner had not even thought of quitting his failed bone scanner salesman job fearing his short termed homelessness, but his unending ambition conquered and thus we saw the birth of a crazy entrepreneur, who ruled world business.

Something similar happened in cricketing arena last week, when, The Wisden Cricketer’s Magazine announced its Test Player of the Year 2009, it wasn’t the name of Sachin Tendulkar, Andrew Flintoff, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag or for that matter even Ricky Ponting, but it was a 22-year old boy from Magura village in Bangladesh. The reward came as a surprise gift to the people of this little known place and that too from a person, who was fittingly there very own, Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib means ‘reward’ or a ‘gift’. So when Shakib Al Hasan won the Wisden Test Cricketer of the Year award, the whole of entire Bangladesh swung into a celebratory mood, and his hometown danced till mid-night, while his parents shed tears of joy.

In London, John Stern, the editor of Wisden Cricket Magazine said, “I’m sure this achievement will be a surprise to many followers of the game, but it represents an outstanding effort in the last 12 months for Shakib, it highlights that if will-power be a guiding factor even the toughest terrain can be conquered and especially in the context of him playing for an international side that is still finding its feet.”

The story might look similar to one of those rags to riches story as Shakib had no means to purchase a bat, which could have ensured him a place in one of the relatively better known clubs in Dhaka, but his zeal and in-born qualities ensured that he wasn’t deterred from his goal.

With just 14 Tests and 70 ODIs under his belt, his achievement is no way near to being called as significant, but as its often said in cricket, “ Don’t go by statistics, they often mislead you.’
His all-round success of-late has ensured Bangladesh securing their first overseas Test series win, that too against a regular Test nation, West Indies. The 96-run innings at Grenada against West Indies is his highest score in Test cricket, but the youngster promises more and offers a hope to his fellow cricketers around the globe to fight odds and realize that ‘impossible is nothing.’

Chris Gardner once said, “If you’re ever going to give something, this is the time, because the need has never been greater.” The Wisden Award might have just come at the right time for Shakib Al Hasan.

Formal football coach of Bangladesh George Kottan now working on Pakistan national team. it is surprised and astonishing that George Kottan is making efforts to have a series of football and cricket matches between the national cricket and football teams later this year.

Kottan, an Austrian, has sought a meeting with cricket captain Younis Khan to get him on board regarding his proposal.

I think, it would be the first effort of its kind in Pakistan and I expect that it would pull more than 50,000 spectators,” Kottan was quoted as sying in The News.

“The matches could be conducted under floodlights either in Lahore or Karachi, and I think the most appropriate would be after the Champions Trophy in South Africa.”

Kottan hoped that Younis will support his idea.

“I am going to meet with Younis Khan and will discuss with him the novel idea of organising football and cricket matches between the national football and cricket teams of the country,” he said.

“The rules would be that in football match our players will kick the ball with left foot while in cricket match the players of the Pakistan cricket team will hold and throw the ball with left hand only,” he said.

It may mentioned here that Younis and may other Pakistani cricketers are avid footballers and are mostly seen playing the game during training sessions at home and abroad.

Bangladesh made a clean sweep of the Digicel One Day International Series, with a comprehensive three wicket win in the Third Digicel ODI at Warner Park. Mahmudullah Riad – who has been a revelation on the Caribbean trip for the visitors – guided the team to victory and remained unbeaten on 51 at the end, to secure the Man of the Match award which comes with a Blackberry Storm from Digicel.

Opener, Junaid Siddique, laid the foundation of the run chase with 55 from 73 deliveries, inclusive of six uncompromising fours.

After the initial flourish – and for the first time in the Digicel ODI Series – the Bangladesh middle order buckled, leaving them on 133 for 5, before Mahmudullah took charge with able assistance from wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim (31) and Naeem Islam (26).

Bangladesh, for the first time in their history, has a perfect win record on a tour. They won both the Digicel Tests and now all three of the Digicel ODIs.
