Today, October 11, 2009 is National Coming Out Day. National Coming Out Day is an international day of celebration, visibility and education for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgenders. The HRC (Human Rights Campaign) is asking people to donate their status on Facebook for NCOD and to be a vocal advocate for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) equality.
The HRC website encourages people to have Conversations from the Heart about their sexuality. It shows people talking honestly about their experiences coming out to family members, teachers, coworkers and religious figures.
I am straight, but I have no fear of other ways of living and loving. You have no choice of who you’ll love; and if you happen to love someone of the same gender, then so be it. True devotion is hard to find and relationships are difficult to navigate. Share your love and relationships with those that are truly deserving. Don’t complicate things by pretending to be something you’re not.
The Coming Out Project helps LGBT, as well as straight-supportive people live openly and talk about their support for equality at home, at work and in their communities each and every day.Support equality – support Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders. Support difference, support life – in whatever form it comes.
