Chicago Marathon 2009 Result : Sammy Wanjiru the winner of the 2008 Olympic gold medal in the Marathon, won the men’s race in the Bank of American Chicago Marathon 2009. The Chicago Marathon 2009, sponsored by Bank of America, started this morning at 7:30am with runners from 100 countries. The winners have crossed the finish line after a very cold start this morning.
More than 45,000 people participated in the 2009 Chicago Marathon this year. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon (Previously The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon) is a major marathon held yearly in Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Alongside the Boston, New York, London and Berlin Marathons, it is one of the five World Major Marathon event. This year the October 11th, 2009 running will be the 32nd Anniversary running of the race.
The men’s winner, Sammy Wanjiru, fell short of his goal of a world record on a day when early-morning temperatures were below freezing, but he still wins $75,000 in prize money for finishing first, $100,000 for breaking the course record and $500,000 for becoming the World Marathon Majors champion.
The winner in the women’s division of the 2009 Chicago Marathon is Liliya Shobukhova, who was a middle-distance specialist. She won the women’s race in 2:25.56 this year Chicago marathon 2009.
